Placement Testing

As a new student at UW Oshkosh, you are required to take the Math A and English placement tests prior to class registration. The results of these exams will be used to place you in the appropriate level English and math courses. Foreign language exams are optional but would be required if you plan to continue your studies in Spanish, French or German.

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 Students – Registration is now open at testing.wisc.edu
• Exams are completed online.
• Complete your tests as soon as possible. Tests will need to be completedat least 5 days prior to your registration day to ensure results will be available. Failure to complete your placement tests by this time may result in the inability to register for your math and English courses during Titan Takeoff.
• You are required to take the English and Math A placement tests. Foreign language is option al .
• You may be exempt from a placement test if you have completed a transferable college English composition course and/or math course ( ie . CAPP, ECCP). You may also be exempt if you have already complete d an AP or IB course prior to your senior year in these subject areas and received a qualifying score on the exam. Please review the section below to determine if you are exempt.

Requesting Accommodation – Please do not register using the link below. Instead follow the instructions listed under the Accommodations drop down.
CAPP and ECCP Students – If you have completed placement tests in the past, you will need to reset your account by calling UW Madison Testing and Evaluation Services at (608) 262-5863

To register:

1. Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 students – Go to testing.wisc.edu.
2. Click the link in the left-hand column titled Students from Other UW Campuses follow this link for the Regional Placement Testing Program.
3. Read through the information listed. If you would like to request accommodations for your exams, please read through the Accommodations drop-down information below before filling out the registration form.
4. Click Registration form to begin the registration process.
   • You will need your UW Oshkosh NetID and password to register. This information was provided when you received your UW Oshkosh email address. You create the NetID and password when you log into your email for the first time. If you no longer have your password for your NetID, please contact our IT Help Desk at (920) 424-3020.
   • The registration form is a two-step process. After filling out section one of the registration form, you will be emailed a verification code from the Center for Placement Testing to complete the registration process in section two.
   • Once you’ve completed the registration form. Further emails will be sent to you from Meazure Learning, which will include the link to the exams and login information. The email address you provide on the registration form will be use to receive those notifications. If you are having troubles locating these emails, please search any spam, junk or deleted message folders in your email account. Any further assistance can be provided by emailing frontdesk@exams.wisc.edu.

Accommodations

To request accommodations due to a disability on the University of Wisconsin placement tests, please follow these instructions.

For Online Exams: Do not register for the placement tests online until you have emailed the information below and received a response. Email the following information to Tim O’Connor at tnoconno@wisc.edu

4. Campus you are planning to attend
5. Accommodations being requested
6. Documentation verifying the disability and need for the accommodations. This should be either a letter on high school letterhead from your counselor or someone else at the school familiar with your accommodations stating what those accommodations have been for tests such as the ACT or a current 504 plan or IEP (Individualized Education Plan). The 504 plan or IEP must be from within the last three years.

This process is completed electronically, so it is very important to list an accurate email address and one that you will check regularly.

Can I be exempt from taking placement tests?

If you have successfully completed a transferable level course ( eg. CAPP, ECCP) in English composition , math or foreign language, or if you have completed an AP or IB course prior to your senior year and received a qualifying score on the exam, you may be exempt. How do I register for placement testing?

After filing out the registration form, you will be emailed instructions on how to access all of the placement tests. You are required to complete the Engli sh and Math A portions. If you wish to continue studying a foreign language, you can also complete the option foreign language exam in Spanish, French or German.

Which exams do I need to take?

Complete the English and Math A placement exams (see exemption information above). Foreign language is optional.

When will I receive my placement test results?

Student will receive their results and placement level during their advising meeting on their registration day.
